Pousadas in Canoa Quebrada
Canoa Quebrada lies 166kms to the south east of Fortaleza. Originally a small fishing villages discovered by the French in the 60s it was adopted by hippies in the 70s and now has a decidedly European feel to it since so many decided to stay on and set up pousadas here. Its trademark is the red coloured cliffs which flank the beach (not nearly as high as you expect them to be from the photos) and the huge moon and star sculpted out of one of them.
Now a lively beach resort with a main traffic free street called Broadway, Canoa Quebrada gets many more visitors than nearby Aracati which used to be most important town in Ceará and which still has many historical buildings dating back to the 19th century. It is very much a place for those who crave laid back fun and nightlife, not for those who prefer a deserted undiscovered beach!
