Pousadas in Búzios
Búzios is a fabulously hilly wooded peninsula boasting no fewer than 23 beaches located only a few hours drive northeast of Rio de Janeiro. Now a thriving all year round beachresort the main centre was originally just a fisherman's village until discovered by Brigitte Bardot in the 1960s. Eternally popular with cariocas wanting to escape the city of Rio de Janeiro, Búzios also attracted huge numbers of Argentinians in the past and "portunhol"(a mixture of Spanish and Portuguese) is heard at least as much as portuguese itself.
The main street in the village where everything happens is the cobbled Rua das Pedras and there are hundreds of pousadas clustered around here, best of which by far is the Pousada Vila do Mar. Go a but further out and you'll find total tranquility and some totally hidden pousadas. Some of these are on the beach, some not but all have incredible views.
Special tip: It's better to rent a car in Búzios rather than in Rio. Much cheaper and you don't pay for parking with a Búzios numberplate!
